Dr Lucy Szablewska

Research Fellow

Department: Newcastle Business School

Dr Lucy Szablewska is a part-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Newcastle Business School in Northumbria University. She is working on an Alzheimer's Society funded project which aims to co-produce and field-test an innovative career guidance and development approach to supporting people living with dementia post-diagnosis. She is  part of a team which includes Professor Valerie Edgell in Northumbria,  and Dr Louise Richie and Dr Laura Lebec from the Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice (ASCPP) in the University of the West of Scotland.

During 2019-2022 she worked as a part-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant on two research projects on visual art and public health in the Department of Geography, Durham University. Between 2012-2019 she undertook a part-time PhD in the Department of Geography, Durham University. It examined the linked lives of Polish worker-carers in North East England and their families in Poland, and makes the case for understanding the significance of population ageing and valuing the role of unpaid care labour in migration research.  During her earlier career she worked as a teacher and project co-ordinator in Greece and Zimbabwe, and in a variety of formal and freelance roles in communications and project co-ordination in North East England.

She is a member of the British Society of Gerontology and the Career Development Institute.
