Dr Yuyuan Shi

Lecturer

Department: Northumbria School of Design

Yuyuan joined Northumbria University as a Lecturer, following the completion of her PhD at the University of Leeds. Her thesis, titled "Double curved surface composites for anthropometry-formed 3D woven apparel forms," earned her doctorate degree. Prior to this, she received a Master of Engineering (MEng) and a Bachelor of Arts from Sichuan University, China. Yuyuan is also a Visiting Researcher, funded by AROP Program, at RWTH-Aachen University in Germany.

Yuyuan's research interests are focused on 3D weaving innovation, apparel manufacturing, 2D/3D digital fashion, functional apparel (such as sportswear and personal protective equipment), and clothing engineering. Her research is rooted in the latest weaving technology, using cross-platform CAD/CAM systems to create a broader range of 3D woven seamless apparel forms that enable efficient manufacturing processes and almost zero waste with the assistance of digital tools.
