Dr Varsha Warrier

Assistant Professor

School: Geography and Natural Sciences

Dr Varsha Warrier is an Assistant Professor in Forensic Science at Northumbria University, since 2026. Prior to this she was working with the University of Derby as a Lecturer in Forensic Science. With an academic background in Zoology, Forensic Science, and Forensic Anthropology, her research spans the domains of Human Identification, Medico-legal age estimation and Bio-profiling, 3D CT reconstruction of human remains, and Computational Statistics, with particular focus on the up-and-coming field of Virtual Forensic Anthropology and the use of Machine Learning models for identification. Her more recent research is targeted towards establishing the applicability of the acetabulum as an identification marker, exploring the impact of lived experiences on biological age estimation, devising trabecular identification methods, and utilising 3D Geometric Morphometrics for identification. She currently has 28 journal articles, book chapters, and review articles to her name, and has acted as a reviewer for Forensic Science International, Egyptian Journal of Forensic Sciences, Scientific Reports, Science and Justice, Behavioural Sciences and the Law, Meta-Radiology, and PLOS-One, amongst other journals. A recent awardee of the British Association for Biological Anthropology Research Grant, her immediate research plans are directed towards further developing the field of Virtual Forensic Anthropology within Human Identification. She is actively involved in teaching Forensic Science and Forensic Statistics modules within her academic role.
