What will I learn on this module?

This module provides an overview of the mind-set, methods, and activities that support entrepreneurship and innovation. Entrepreneurial actors, whether occurring in an independent, corporate or social context, operate within a unique set of circumstances involving the entrepreneur / team, an opportunity, and the identification and marshalling of key resources needed to capture the opportunity. All of this must be done in the context surrounding the opportunity. The module takes an experimental and experiential approach where students develop a viable business model whilst critically reflecting upon the relevance of entrepreneurship and innovation upon their career and relevance to a chosen organisation.

How will I learn on this module?

You will experience a dynamic and flexible learning environment that caters to professionals across all sectors. The delivery blends intensive face-to-face workshops with virtual sessions and self-directed online components. Pre-sessional activities will prime and explore your operating context, whilst post-sessional tutorials will support you to reflect upon your developing toolkit as you integrate personal and academic theory into your practice.

Throughout the module you will engage in expert-led workshops, peer-learning and live case studies that solve real-world problems. This approach aims to develop an experimental mindset and innovation-oriented practices. In doing so, you will recognise that entrepreneurs are not the risk-takers they may appear, but action takers, able to rapidly generate, assess, develop and effectively communicate convincing business cases.

A robust digital learning platform supports your studies and will offer recordings and peer-learning opportunities. Optional office hours and guided independent study sessions provide personalised support from experience tutors ensuring that varied learning needs are supported.

How will I be supported academically on this module?

In this module your learning is guided by experienced module tutors and supported by dedicated programme leaders and academic mentors, ensuring that expert advice is available. In addition to workshops and group sessions you will have access to drop-in sessions, office hours and activities on our digital learning platform – providing flexible support within and around the formal setting.

The programme is structured to encourage collaborative and independent study, with resources such as recorded orientation seminars, curated readings materials, and peer learning groups that help you reflectively develop your entrepreneurial and innovative mindset. The development of this mindset is personal to you; however your academic team are experienced in helping emerging entrepreneurs navigate various challenges.

How will I be assessed?

This module is assessed through a reflective logbook (60%) MLO 1, 2, 3, 5.

Presentation / pitch of a business model (40%). MLO 3, 4, 5.


Formative feedback will be offered throughout the block teaching sessions and in the virtual sessions convened to support your learning and development.

Module abstract

Within the uncertainty of a rapidly changing world, there a growing need for leaders to adopt a flexible, experimental and agile mindset. This module explores the mind-set, methods, and activities that support entrepreneurs and innovators as they navigate this landscape. Entrepreneurs innovate through the identification of, and subsequent 'exploitation' of, an opportunity, taking steps to assemble and marshal the key resources and relationships needed. This must be done in the unique context surrounding you, the entrepreneur, and the opportunity. The module takes an experimental and experiential approach where you are guided through the development of a viable business model whilst critically reflecting upon the relevance of entrepreneurship and innovation upon your practice and your chosen organisation. In doing this, you will recognise that entrepreneurs are not the risk-takers they may appear, but action takers, able to rapidly generate, assess, develop and effectively communicate convincing business cases.
