Do have any previous professional experience?

Yes – Previously Director of Value for Money Audit at the National Audit Office

Why did you choose the MSc International Development?

Firstly, I became interested in the concept of development from my discussions with DFID and wanted to explore the complexities and challenges involved in delivering aid.

Secondly, when I initially visited the University to explore the option I was very impressed by those I met and how they would support me as a mature student returning to University.

What are the strengths of this course?

The collaborative and constructive attitude of the staff. There is a genuine willingness to support students through the process. How the taught modules build up the core knowledge needed to undertake the dissertation.

How will this course enhance your future career?

My background is probably different to that of most other students. For me, the course is helping me to strengthen my skills base and start to open up doors to be a freelance consultant. Apart from strengthening my core knowledge of the sector, the dissertation has given me the opportunity to build new networks.

Why would you recommend MSc International Development?

There is a range of career opportunities in international development and as most require a masters, this course provides the core training needed.Tackling poverty and inequality involves more than simply throwing money at well-intentioned people. The course teaches you to look beyond the obvious and challenges pre-conceptions.There is a positive learning environment.
