MSc Occupational and Organisational Psychology

HLS_Postgraduate -Student _Ethan -ShapiroWhere are you from?

Los Angeles, California.

What undergraduate course did you study and where?

I completed my BA in Business Management at Webster University in Leiden, The Netherlands.

Why did you decide to study a Masters?

I came to Northumbria to do an MSc in Psychology as I wanted to do a conversion course into the subject. I chose this second masters because of my dissertation topic being in the field of occupational psychology and also because of how it complemented my previous studies. I started my university studies with a passion for wanting to understand organizations, but now my focus has shifted to wanting to understand the individuals that make up those organizations.

Why did you choose Northumbria Unversity? Why did you choose your specific course?

I chose it because it offered both the MSc Psychology and MSc Occupational Psychology courses. It would give me the opportunity to explore both areas and help me decide what I would like to do next.

What makes your course challenging/inspiring/different? How would you sum up the difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study?

It offers a lot of work experience opportunities. I have had many chances to being able to see the theories we have learned in lectures being applied to real world practical settings. The difference between the studies is that you are much more focused and thinking about your future. You want to make the most of your postgrad experience because the year goes by quickly.

How accessible do you find our staff? Do you feel at ease?

They are very accessible and willing to work out a time to suit you to meet with you and discuss any concerns you may be having.

As a postgraduate student, what aspects of university life are important to you?

I found the facilities and location to be very important. I needed to feel like I'm an environment that is conducive to learning and I have that at Northumbria.

How would you describe Northumbria University in three words?

Exciting, opportunities, diverse.
