Our Alumni - Work For Us
Dean Brown is a 3D designer and researcher based in London. As a member of the Interaction Research Studio, he pursues practice-based research exploring the design of computational systems for everyday life. His projects include the EPSRC-funded MyNaturewatch, Yo-Yo Machines, ProbeTools and More-than-Human Data Interactions in the City (MoTH). Dean is currently working as a co-investigator on the Room of the Future project— a fully immersive, permanent, room-sized exhibit at the Museum of the Home that explores the future of home life in East London in response to societal and technological change. He is adept at creating engaging designs from humble materials and has used his network to create links between the Studio and the wider design community.
In parallel with his research, Dean is the founder of Brown Office — a design studio with a narrative-driven approach to creating installations and objects for clients including Google, V&A, Campari, Sèvres and Schloss Hollenegg. Founded in 2014, Brown Office draws on Dean’s interdisciplinary design background, which includes studying product design at DJCAD, University of Dundee (2003–2007), followed by a residency scholarship at the Fabrica Research Centre in Italy (2010–2014).
