Dr Emily Hope

Dr Emily Hope (formerly Dr Emily Round) is a Lecturer in the School of Communities and Education, and the Assistant Director of the Healthy Living Lab. 

Emily holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology, an MRes degree in Psychology, and a PhD which used mixed methods to investigate the nutritional education component of the UK Government's Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme. 

Since obtaining her PhD in 2024, Emily has completed an NIHR-funded post-doctoral research fellowship which evaluated school food provision in special schools and alternative provision settings, and has led evaluations of HAF Plus in the North East of England. Based on her wider research interests, Emily has also undertaken a range of research projects related to topics such as food insecurity among UK university students and other areas of school food policy, and has worked on co-design projects directly with children, families and schools. Emily submitted evidence to the House of Lords Food, Diet and Obesity Committee related to HAF which was accepted and published, and contributed to the N8 ‘Child of the North’ report series focusing on physical activity and healthy nutrition through education settings.

Within her role as a Lecturer, Emily supervises student research projects across a number of programmes in the School. She is also currently the lead for the Evidence and Research module on the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy Degree Apprenticeship, as well as the dissertation module lead for BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care and MSc Occupational Therapy.
