Our Alumni - Work For Us
Dr Pablo Martínez Capdevila is an Assistant Professor at Northumbria University (UK). Previously he was Senior Lecturer at the Portsmouth School of Architecture (UK), Guest Lecturer in the Bergen Arkitekthøgskole (Norway) and Lecturer in the Pontifical University of Salamanca (Madrid).
In 2014 he obtained his Ph.D. in the Polytechnic University of Madrid with a dissertation on Andrea Branzi’s urban models that received the UPM 2014-2015 Extraordinary Prize for Doctoral Dissertations and was shortlisted for the X Arquia/Tesis prizes and the X BIAU biennale. His research is focused on the relation between architecture and politics and on the radical stances that undermine the discipline. His history and theory writings have been published in journals such as Log, A+T, Plot, The Journal of Architecture, Cuadernos de Proyectos Arquitectónicos, and in books and readers published by Routledge, Springer, the Pavillon de l'Arsenal or the Venice Biennale.
He qualified as an 'Arquitecto Superior' (Spanish full professional accreditation, equivalent to MArch) in the ETSAM (Madrid), and studied also in the Polythecnic Univeristy of Turin (Italy). Has lectured at the ESALA (Edinburgh), the ENSA Paris-Belleville (France), the EPS-CEU University (Madrid), the Higher Technical Schools of Architecture of Madrid and Alcalá (ETSAM, ETSAG-UAH), and has been external examiner at BAS (Norway).
Founding member of MISC arquitectos (www.misc.es), his work has been awarded prizes in different competitions, published in magazines such as AW Arkitektur +Wettbewerbe, L’Arca, A+T, Future Arquitecturas, Arkitektur Sweden, TC Cuadernos, Arquitectura (COAM) or Arquitectos (CSCAE) and displayed in exhibitions such as the Europan Generations Exhibition in the Cité de l´Architecture et du Patrimoine in Paris or Alter-Polis in the Intermediae-Matadero Madrid Art center.
Prior to this independent practice, he collaborated as design architect and site manager in leading architecture offices such as Abalos & Herreros or Carvajal-Casariego developing a wide variety of projects including hospitals, cultural centres, collective housing, office buildings, parks and industrial facilities.
