Dr Fania Pagnamenta

Department: Social Work, Education and Community Wellbeing

I am a Clinical Academic Nurse Consultant for Tissue Viability in a trailblazing post that offers the best of both worlds: I deliver expert hands-on care and undertake research that has rapid clinical impact.

Clinically, I assess, plan, deliver and review care for patients with wounds of differing aetiologies as they are first admitted to The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NuTH). I also co-lead a regional multi-professional Healing Clinic for Complex Wounds. I am the Professional Lead for wound care in NuTH and co-chair for Tissue Viability within the Shelford Group, which is a collaboration between ten of the largest teaching and research NHS hospital trusts in England.

Academically, I work at Northumbria University as a researcher and my interests pertain to leg ulceration, clinical pathways and ways to prevent simple wounds from becoming chronic ulceration.

I have edited a training booklet aimed at generalist nurses, ‘A Short Course in Wound Healing’ which is now used as a basis for wound care training within (the Shelford Group).

I have a keen interest in pragmatic dressing evaluation methodology that adds to the body of wound care knowledge. Collaboration with service users is central to my approach to for my wound care and research.
