Dr Kyu Hyun Park

Lecturer

I am a Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at Northumbria University. I completed my PhD at Northumbria University, following studies at the University of Leeds and SOAS, University of London. Before joining Northumbria University, I worked and taught at the University of Westminster.

My research interests focus on the production processes of communicators in pragmatics, primarily from the perspective of relevance theory. I have applied relevance-theoretic approaches to understanding how communicators make assumptions about their addressees' cultural backgrounds and incorporate this into their language use. My work explores the cognitive mechanisms underlying communication, with a particular focus on factors that constrain production.

I am a reviewer for the Journal of Pragmatics and have published my research in leading international journals. I teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, delivering modules on linguistics and TESOL, and regularly contribute to the international linguistics community through conference presentations and scholarly publications.
