Join 30,000 senior leaders taking part in a practical management training programme delivered by world-class business schools, accredited by the Small Business Charter.
Help to Grow Management will be delivered by leading small business and enterprise experts from Northumbria University, with the support of leading figures from industry and experienced entrepreneurs.
The programme will support senior managers of small and medium sized businesses to boost their business’s performance, resilience, and long-term growth. The 12-week programme is 90% funded by the Government and the fee payable by participants is £750 and has been designed to allow participants to complete it alongside full-time work.
The in-depth, high quality curriculum will support you to build your capabilities in leadership, innovation, digital adoption, employee engagement, marketing, responsible business, and financial management. By the end of the programme, you will develop a business growth plan to help you lead your business to release its potential.
The programme takes place over 3-months and includes both online and face-to-face sessions, alongside peer support and mentoring.
The programme covers key areas of leadership including:

- Building vision and brand
- Engaging and inspiring teams
- Creating customer value
- Adopting digital technology
- Adopting responsible business practices

Course FAQs
To join Help to Grow: Management, your business must:
- Be a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) based in the United Kingdom
- Be from any business sector, employing between 5 and 249 people
- Have been operational for at least one year
- Not be a charity
To join Help to Grow: Management, the applicant must:
- Be a decision maker or member of the senior management team within the business, such as Chief Executive, Finance Director, Operations Director etc.
- Commit to completing all sessions
2 people per business can complete the course providing the business employs 10 or more employees.
The time commitment is approximately 4 hours per week for 12 weeks, through a combination of in-person and online learning.
In addition, you will receive 10 hours of 1 to 1 support from an experienced business mentor. Your mentor will have extensive practical experience leading, or working, with SME business leaders on growth, productivity, and innovation.
You will have the opportunity to learn from peers and network with businesses like yours.
You will:
- Develop your leadership skills across all areas of business including strategic planning, employee engagement, finance and marketing
- Develop strategies for market segmentation, positioning and targeting to streamline your marketing approach
- Gain exclusive access to a local, regional and national peer network to share practical challenges, ideas and experiences
- Work with your mentor to develop a growth action plan tailored to your business and its unique journey
- Learn how to engage employees on your business journey and plan the future structure of your organisation
- Improve operational efficiency to save time and money
Small business leaders from nearly every industry sector have attended the course.
Whether you run a marketing agency, a family-owned restaurant, a manufacturing company or a totally different type of business, you will meet leaders or senior managers that regularly experience the day-to-day challenges that you face.
