Healthcare Professional Practice MRes

Can you give us a brief biography of your career so far?

Graduated with first class honours in BSc in Operating Department Practice in 2017, commencing into teaching part-time in 2019. Commenced in role as Workplace Coach in 2021 at Northumbria University

What was it about Northumbria that made you decide to study here?

Northumbria University has amazing research and innovation culture within the university.

What is it like studying at Northumbria?

Very supportive - this programme was the first to run and the lecturers have been so knowledgeable and adaptable to our needs (given we were a smaller cohort!) and I have felt supported throughout, in particular Phil Hodgson, couldn't do enough for us to ensure we had what we need.
Thoroughly enjoyable and engaging.

What was the best thing about your course?

The mixed approach of learning - an intense year of learning research theory in first year and being able to put all the knowledge gain into practice, completing a study autonomously with supervision

How connected was your course with industry?

Directly relevant as I was able to put my learning into practice and undertake a research study in my second year, which gave me the insight into contemporary research

What is your favourite thing/place on campus?

All of it - everyone is friendly and welcoming and it helps that campus is modern and clean

How will the course help you achieve your career goals/ give your career an edge?

Given me the skills to study at level 7 and potentially create further research opportunity in the future

What advice would you give somebody who is considering studying at Northumbria?

If there is one place to study, it's Northumbria. But if you're unsure, chat your thoughts and concerns with the appropriate programme leader - they're very approachable

How are you going to take your knowledge/ experience and put this into practice?

Direct application of level 7 academic understanding and potentially inform practice with my research study - hoping to engage in research more confidently in the future!
