Postgraduate Research

Because of the multiple functions that SAW devices possess, the SAW sensors are widely used in sensing field (especially in bio-detection field). Biosensor has become popular in current years due to the possibility of using it in different applications such as drug deliveries, food and medical analysis. Moreover, various parameters that biosensor has helped in detecting and identifying biomolecules and wide availability facilitates researchers for examination the molecules in human body as well as determine the cause of some diseases.
Different technologies can be used in bio-sensing or bio-diagnosis, using acoustic waves, fluorescence, electrochemical and optical technologies.

Aims and objectives
The objectives of this research project are as follows:
1- To develop microfluidic sensing system based on surface acoustic wave technologies: especially using advanced piezoelectric (ZnO) thin films;
2- To design, fabricate and characterize novel acoustic wave micro-devices for microfluidic mixing and particle manipulation and bio-sensing, all realized on the same lab-on-chip
