French and Spanish

Where are you from?

Gateshead.

Why did you choose Northumbria University, Newcastle?

The course was rated third in the UK, and I wanted to stay fairly local.

What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?

Newcastle is a great student city, I enjoy going to the theatre royal, as well as for drinks on the Quayside.

What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?

Everyone is very friendly, and I am most impressed by the green areas/park space in the area.

Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?  Was it easy to fit in?

Yes, the lectures help you to integrate well with other students, and the students union offers a variety of activities to meet new people and to make friends on socials.

What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?

I have enjoyed working at the Students' Union, and being part of a society

Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?

I have had help from all of my lecturers, they are very supportive and can offer advice and guidance for course work, exams and essays all of the time.

Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?

I have been inspired by the alumni who I met in employability week, as I hope to be successful in a graduate job, and they have been able to offer advice on this.

What is your favourite place on campus?

I really like spending free-time in Habita with friends, because the food is great and the music is good.

Have you joined any sports teams, clubs or been involved in any volunteer projects?  Tells us about the highlights?

I became a member of the Pole Fitness Society after starting university in September, I was then elected as Treasurer on the society during 2012/13 and during 2013/14 I was elected as President which has been really rewarding, but also provided me with great experience for my CV.

What is the best thing about your course?

I really like the course, because it is easy to see your progress year by year, and therefore encourages you to work at your best.

What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?

It is really important to stay positive, even if you have lots of work and deadlines, it is better to work through them slowly than to ignore them and to feel stressed.

What do you want to do in the future?  What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?

I want to use my degree to get into a business, I would really like to get into management, I think my most important skills for work are my organisational skills and time-management.

Have you worked on any projects with businesses or been on a placement?  What were your most memorable experiences?

I have been offered an intern ship with Procter and Gamble which I am very excited for. The placement will run over the summer in 2015, and I am hoping to gain valuable skills and opportunities for my CV.

Have you taken up any opportunities to travel with your current course/undertake field trips?  If so, please tell us about them.

Yes, my course offers a year abroad option, which I am nervous about, but really looking forward to. I am hoping to go to Toulouse to teach English as a foreign language for 7 months, then to au pair in Northern Spain.

If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?

I would recommend that they have a filling system, and that they re-read lecture notes on a regular basis to stay on top of their work loads.

How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University, Newcastle (e.g. confidence)?

I have become more confident, and have a much more structured approach to my work.

If you had 3 words to sum up your time with us what would they be?

Fun, challenging, exciting.

Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?

Definitely.
