Our Alumni - Work For Us
Why did you choose Northumbria University?
I didn't want to move far from home and Northumbria was one of the few local universities that offered a Mathematics degree - it also offered the most modern accommodation that was close to the University as well as the city centre.
What do you think of Newcastle and our region and what are your favourite things to do?
I love living in Newcastle - especially having so many shops on the doorstep. The student nightlife is also great and there's always plenty to do around the city even if you're low on money that week.
What has surprised you most about living in Newcastle and this region? What has impressed you most?
It's really easy to get anywhere with the metro service and all of the local buses - although most of what you need is right in the city centre.
Did you find Northumbria University welcoming?
The University was really welcoming and I settled in straight away.
What have you enjoyed most about coming to Northumbria University?
I've made a lot of good friends and I really enjoy my course.
Who has helped you most since you came to Northumbria?
My tutor has been really helpful whenever I've had questions about my course.
Who has inspired you most at Northumbria University?
All of my lecturers are really passionate about the modules they teach which is really inspiring.
What is your favourite place on campus?
The Students' Union - there's always something on!
What is the best thing about your course?
The variety of modules so you can discover what interests you the most and what you're best at.
What are the most valuable lessons you have learnt to date?
You have to put yourself out there and take every opportunity you can to gain experience as well as make friends.
What do you want to do in the future? What skills have you learned/improved that you think will be of most use in your future career?
At the moment I want to work in energy production - on my course one of the modules involved a group assignment which has really improved my confidence as well as being able to vocalise my own ideas and opinions whilst working as a group.
If you could offer some advice to students thinking of coming to study here what would you say?
Go for it! I worked really hard to get into the University I wanted to go to and now I'm here it's so worth it. It's welcoming and you don't feel out of place or intimidated - it's definitely been the best decision I've made to come to Northumbria.
How do you feel you have changed as a person since being at Northumbria University?
I'm a lot more outgoing but I've also became a lot more responsible because of the independence of living in the city and being away from home.
If you had three words to sum up your time with us what would they be?
Fun, challenging, and worthwhile.
Would you recommend Northumbria University to a friend?
Yes.
