Current Project Tile:
Strategic Modelling of Telehealthcare Systems as a means of Integrating Health and Social care
Abstract:
Within the context of the Information Management and Technology (IM&T) strategy (DOH, 2012) of the UK National Health Service (NHS), and the recent Care Act (Gov UK, 2014), a strategic agenda is being driven to develop innovative models of integrated health and social care services. This will require very rapid transformational change, innovative ‘out of the box’ thinking, new forms of professional collaboration and interdisciplinary working, and an emphasis on empowering local regional stakeholders in the design of new systems of wellbeing and care. These ‘step changes’ will require new and more innovative technologies such as tele-health and telecare (telehealthcare). An overarching aim is to increase citizen wellbeing whilst providing more effective levels of care in the community as opposed to over-use of increasingly pressured secondary care hospital services. This work will build on the existing work of the NBS Digital Economy research group (Wainwright & Small, 2014; Waring, 2015; Wainwright & Shaw, 2011; Waring & Wainwright, 2002; Waring & Alexander, 2015).
The aim of this project is to develop a strategic modelling framework for telehealthcare innovations within the context of the government (£3.8 bn) Better Care Fund, operating at a local authority level and specifically within the interstices of integrated health and social care partnership working. It aims to contribute to the healthcare information systems and sociotechnical literature as well as develop new theory and inform the practice of health and social care professionals, Information Technology vendors and management consultants.
