Msc Biotechnology

HLS_Priscilla -Hong _Student _Biotechnology (1)What appealed to you about Northumbria University?

I heard about the friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff at Northumbria University and was confident that they would be of great help to their students. I also like Newcastle and the fact that it is a student city and very safe.

Why did you choose this course?

I have always loved Science and Biology. I did a BSc Biotechnology at a local university, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), before coming to Northumbria University and would like to enhance my knowledge in the field.

What do you like most about the course?

The lecturers are very helpful and the course content is very relevant. The course gives me a head start for the real working scientific world, in that it exposes me to the various fields in biotechnology, the latest research and helps me decide what sort of career path I would like to pursue later.

What do you do when you’re not studying?

I volunteer, recently working at the Newcastle Science Festival. It was great working with people who are all doing it just to help out, and not for the money. I made a lot of new friends. I also joined trips organised by the Students’ Union and have been to places of interest such as Leeds, Durham and Hadrian’s Wall.

What would you like to do when you graduate?

I would like to work for a couple of years and then study for a PhD. Hopefully with a good MSc, I would be able to find a good job and maybe a scholarship for my PhD

What three words would you use to describe your time at Northumbria University?

Balanced, enriching experience.
