Research Themes & Scholarly Interests

My research aims to explore the relationship between the plethora of periodical writing published between 1817 and 1824 and the poetry of three writers whom we now consider to be canonical: Lord Byron, John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley. For each of these writers, the periodical press was not, as it has usually been considered, a fact external to their writing: a mere resource, or an irritant. It was, my thesis will contend, a dynamic creative example that their work drew on, absorbed and transformed.
