Santander University Scholarship 2022/23

£2,000 cash scholarships for 20 Masters students

We are thrilled to announce the return of the University Santander Scholarship for 2022/23.

This remarkable opportunity will award 20 current UK Northumbria students, who choose to stay with us for a Postgraduate course, with a £2,000 cash scholarship.  What you spend it on is up to you.  The Santander University Scholarship is available across a wide range of eligible Full-Time Masters courses*, beginning in September 2022.

To be eligible to apply for the Santander University Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a current Undergraduate UK student who is studying at Northumbria University, and has received student finance in 2021/22
  • Have been assessed for student finance based on household income of under £40,000
  • Apply for an eligible Full-Time Masters course* based at the Newcastle Upon Tyne campus starting in September 2022

Eligible Courses*

All Full-Time one year Postgraduate Taught courses starting in September 2022, with the exception of:

  • Primary Education PGCE
  • School Direct PGCE
  • Occupational Therapy (Pre-Registration)
  • Any other course which attracts Undergraduate funding

Note; All Postgraduate Taught courses are listed below however, please make sure to check the eligibility criteria before applying for the Santander University Scholarship.

  • Students selected for a Santander University Scholarship will not be eligible for other Northumbria Scholarships which includes, The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship
  • Students selected will be eligible for the Alumni Discount
  • The Santander University Scholarship is awarded as a cash sum
  • Scholarships will be awarded based on the means-tested household income and on your scholarship application form - your course application form will not be considered
  • Students will receive a £2,000 cash payment on Full-Time eligible courses studied at City and Coach Lane Campus only
  • The cash award will be paid as: 25% in November 2022, 25% in February 2023, and 50% in May 2023
  • If your course is longer than one year, the scholarship will be provided in the first year of study only
  • The successful students will be required to send a thank you letter and progress updates to the donor
  • If you do not provide a thank you letter and progress updates to the donor, the scholarship will be withdrawn
  • If you defer your place, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn
  • If you decide to leave your course after a scholarship payment has been made, the University will not make efforts to reclaim the amount
  • Northumbria reserves the right to withdraw this scheme at any point
  • The University's decision is final and cannot be challenged; there is no right of appeal

  • There is a competitive selection process for this scholarship scheme.  Applicants need to apply via online written application; a selection panel will consider all eligible applications.  Applications will be considered on the strength of response to, in no more than 250 words: How will studying at Northumbria and being awarded a Santander University Scholarship help you to prepare for your future?
  • Successful applicants will be notified once the evaluation panel has met, no later than Friday 02 September 2022.
